Walsall crime focus sees significant results
An operation in Walsall targeting high crime areas and criminals who live in those areas has seen significant results over the last five months.
Operation Focus - launched at the beginning of October last year and extended until the end of last month - has seen over 200 arrests.
Officers from neighbourhood teams across the borough worked with the local neighbourhood taskforce to target high crime areas, arrest offenders and find outstanding wanted people.
In total, 202 people were arrested as part of the investigation, for offences including robbery, burglary, assaults, possession of weapons and drug offences.
A number of people have been charged and put before the courts and several have already received prison sentences.
Inspector Janine Fagan who heads the neighbourhood taskforce, said: “Operation Focus has seen a reduction in crime which is really positive, however we remain focused on further reducing crime and dealing with those committing it.
“We’re now planning to address seasonal trends identified for this time of year and will be focusing our efforts on tackling anti-social behaviour, violence and knife crime.
“We continue to rely on help from our communities in taking criminals off the streets. We’ve got some excellent working relationships with people who are really proactive in sharing our messages and advice.
“We are grateful for this support and would encourage anyone who is interested in working with us via schemes such as Neighbourhood Watch or Street Watch to get in touch.”
