Two arrested as firearm found in business park

#ARRESTED | We’ve got two men in custody today after a loaded firearm was found dumped at an industrial unit in Birmingham yesterday (16 Sept).

Traffic officers on routine patrol spotted a grey BMW on false plates, which immediately made off from them just after 2pm. After a short pursuit, where the BMW was driven dangerously with speeds of up to 80mph in a 30 zone, the occupants abandoned it and made off on foot in Nechells Park Road.

But our officers caught up with two of them and the car was found to have been stolen from a property in Shirley last July.

A short time later a gun was reported found at a business unit in Stargate Business Park and firearms officers were despatched to retrieve the weapon which was found fully loaded.

The 22-year-old driver of the BMW remains in custody on suspicion of vehicle theft, dangerous driving and possession of a firearm, while his 19-year-old passenger is being held on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of a firearm and drugs.

This is another success in our fight against violent crime and another weapon off the streets of Birmingham.
