Speeding driver jailed for trying to blame a fictitious person

A Birmingham man who tried to dodge a speeding fine by pinning the blame on a driver who didn’t exist has been jailed for three months.

Mohammed Hajisaid was caught on camera on Heartlands Parkway but, said a fictitious character from Amsterdam was the one travelling at 55mph in a 40mph zone.

Officers ran checks but found no trace of the person he had named, and camera images proved 27-year-old Hajisaid had been at the wheel when the offence happened.

Hajisaid, of Hindlow Close, Nechells, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice at Birmingham Crown Court and was sentenced on 21 May.
