Robbery suspect (18) remanded in prison over chain snatches

A robbery suspect accused of snatching necklaces from women in Birmingham city centre is now behind bars having been remanded at court.

Munther Ali, from Ventnor Avenue in Newtown, appeared before Birmingham magistrates on Friday (Aug 11) charged with six robberies between 11 July and 9 August.

It’s alleged he ripped chains from the necks of six women − all walking alone in Colmore Row near St Philips Cathedral − and stole a watch from a man near New Street Station.

The 18-year-old was remanded in prison and will next appear at Birmingham Crown Court on September 8.
