Police appeal following fatal Northfield collision

Police investigating a fatal collision in the Northfield area of Birmingham are appealing for information.

Officers were called to Frankley Lane just after 1am this morning (Wednesday 22 May) to the collision involving a taxi and Volkswagen Polo.

Sadly, the 23-year-old driver of the Polo died at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers.
Two passengers in the car were taken to hospital where they remain this morning with injuries that are not believed to be serious.

The taxi driver and his passenger sustained minor injuries and did not need hospital treatment.

DC Jamie Simon from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am asking anyone who saw this collision to get in touch with us and let us know what happened.

“We are in the early stages of our investigation, but anything you may know could be very helpful. Particularly, if you have dash-cam footage of the collision itself or moments prior to it taking place.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, or to call 101 anytime. Please quote log number 99 of 22 May.
