Police appeal following fatal collision
Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Hamstead last night (Saturday 23 September).
A white BMW was involved in a collision with a double decker bus on Hamstead Road, near to the junction with Amberley Green just before 9pm.
Emergency services attended and the road was closed for a number of hours.
The driver of the bus and three passengers received minor injuries.
The 30-year old driver of the BMW and his front seat passenger in his 20’s were treated by paramedics at the scene. Both men were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Unfortunately despite the best efforts of the emergency services the driver later died in hospital.
He has been named as Deepak Riat.
His family released the following tribute and picture:
“In loving memory of our soldier, Dee. We will all love you for the rest of our lives. Rest in peace King.
“We ask, as a family, for privacy at this very difficult time.”
Police Sergeant Alan Wood from the force’s collision investigation unit, said: “We are investigating the circumstances of what happened. A number of witnesses were spoken to at the scene, and the vehicles have been recovered for further analysis.
“I would like to appeal for anyone who saw the collision take place to come forward if they have not done so already.
"The family of the driver have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers, our thoughts are with them at this time.”
