Police appeal for driver to come forward in fatal Edgbaston collision

Police are appealing for information to trace a dark coloured people carrier car after a taxi driver suffered fatal injuries in a collision in Edgbaston in the early hours of Tuesday 29 August.

Officers were called to City Road at around 1.50am when the 47-year-old – who was standing next to his parked car – was struck by a car that failed to stop.

The father of five who tragically lost his life at the scene, has been named as Mohammed Shezad.

Mohammed’s family have described him as “A loving father, devoted husband and best friend to everyone.”

A statement released on behalf of the family added: “Mohammed was a shining light on everyone who knew him.

“He will be missed more than words can express. Nothing can ever replace him, he truly was one of a kind.”

Sgt Alan Hands from the Collision Investigation Unit said: “I would like to speak to the driver of a dark coloured people carrier car that was travelling along City Road at the time of the collision.

“The vehicle is likely to have suffered damage to the front near the headlights along with the windscreen and one of the wing mirrors.

“If you have any information on who the driver is, or you have seen a large dark car with damage that raises your suspicions, please let us know.”

The Collision Investigation Unit can be contacted on 101, quoting log 193 of 29 August or by email on

Alternatively, information can be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
