Plea for information two-years on from Coventry fatal shooting, kidnap and murder

Detectives investigating the murders of two men in Coventry in 2018 vow the investigation continues at pace.

It’s been two years today (Wednesday 25 March), since Daniel Shaw, 28, was found dead with gunshot injuries to his chest in Copland Place in the Tile Hill area of the city.

We also linked Daniel’s death to the disappearance of 33-year-old Johnny Robbins.

Johnny went missing in March 2018. Sadly his body has not been found

Johnny went missing in Coventry on 21 March 2018 and we believe he was kidnapped and tortured before being murdered. Sadly, to date, his body has not been found.

A number of people have been arrested during our two year extensive investigation for a number of offences and have all been released while investigations continue.

Last year we appealed for sightings of Ryan Hobday, aged 28 at the time of the murders, from Coventry who is wanted in connection with the murders. We are still seeking his whereabouts, however we believe he may also have been murdered.

While we’ve had lots of information and intelligence from the community, we know some people are frightened to talk to us.

We still have a team of detectives working on this investigation and they desperately need anyone with any information, no matter how small it may seem, to make contact.

This can be anonymously to us, we will treat anything you tell us in confidence, or if you prefer, or via Crimestoppers.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Mallett, who leads the investigation, said: “For two years Daniel and Johnny’s families and friends have had to suffer not only their tragic loss, but also have not had the answers they so desperately need about what happened and who was responsible.

“Johnny’s family have not even been able to put him to rest properly, an absolutely heart-breaking situation for them to be in.

“Two innocent men lost their lives in the most horrific circumstances, and the pain and damage that causes all who loved them is indescribable.

“We remain as committed as we were when we first began our investigation, to finding who did this and bringing them to justice.

“They may think they’ve got away with what they did, but I’d like them to know that our investigation is still very much alive and we’re piecing together a huge amount of information. We know who committed these murders and why they did it.

“The law abiding people living in Tile Hill in fear of these people have told us. But because they are frightened of this group, they are understandably reluctant to tell us what they know formally.

“I want to assure anyone who can give us information that will help us put these violent and cowardly murderers in prison for many years, that we can keep them safe for doing the right thing and giving Johnny and Daniel’s family justice. This investigation will not stop until that time and I want the following message to be crystal clear to those who are responsible - the community knows who you are. And so do we.’

“Daniel and Johnny’s families are being kept fully updated and I thank them for their patience and understanding. They’ve shown great courage and strength throughout this horrendous time."

Daniel’s family said: “Today marks two years since Dan was murdered. As a family it has been two years of ups, downs and sheer devastation. The loss of Dan has broken each and every person who knew him, even now it’s hard to believe anyone would want to hurt him let alone kill him.

“He was so kind and gentle, a loving soul who would have helped anyone and everyone in need."

Johnny’s family said: “One day your life’s ticking along nicely and then something catastrophic like this happens and your whole life and world are turned upside down. Your mind can’t cope with the trauma, the confusion, the devastation and the overwhelming grief.

“As a family are still trying to piece together our heartbroken lives, supporting each other and Johnny’s bereft children. It’s a very long, emotional and painstaking process for each of us. We miss Johnny so much every day.

“Two years have passed now and it’s still so difficult to comprehend. We have no answers to our questions.

“Our only hope now is that one day Johnny’s body will be recovered and we are able to lay him to rest with his dad."
