Pair face court over shock assault on man with walking stick
West Midlands Police have charged a man over a shocking bus stop robbery in which a man with a walking stick was beaten to the floor with a metal bar.
The force released CCTV footage on Friday (16 August) showing the victim, a man in his 50s, being bundled to the floor, kicked and assaulted by two men who tried rummaging through his pockets.
Detectives yesterday arrested 24-year-old Tayub Zaman, from Cherrywood Road in Bordesley Green, in connection with the incident.
Zaman has now been charged with assault with intent to rob, possession of an offensive weapon, driving without insurance and driving without a licence; he is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court today (21 August).
Authority has also been granted to charge a second man – 25-year-old Kyle Causer from Staple Lodge Road, Northfield – with the same assault charge and weapon possession. He remains in custody and will be summonsed to court at a later date.
