Nine arrested and weapons seized on bus in Small Heath

Detectives are investigating reports of a teenager being chased through Radley’s Park by a group of teens carrying weapons yesterday evening (Saturday 20 April).

It’s believed that the group then got onto the number 17 bus on Hob Moor Road in Small Heath just before 6pm.

Officers boarded the bus and nine teenagers, all under 18-years-old, were arrested on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon. They are all in police custody.

A number of weapons were recovered from the bus and seized by police.

An investigation is underway, including a CCTV trawl and forensic analysis.

Detective Inspector Jim Church, from Force CID, said: “We’re working hard to determine the circumstances around what happened last night.

“It’s completely unacceptable for people to be carrying weapons and we’re determined to robustly tackle this sort of crime.

“I’d ask that anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything contacts us as soon as possible."

Enquiries are underway and anyone with any information is urged to contact police via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight or call 101 anytime or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Please crime reference number 20BE/95072A/19
