New Street Watch couple embark on canal patrol
#StreetWatch | Meet the Hiddenpals - they're some of our newest Street Watch members and they've taken to it like ducks to water.
In fact they've got into their stride so quickly that they've already decided to branch out and include part of the Birmingham Canal on their Street Watch patrol.
Hemanth and Santhi, who moved to Smethwick's Galton Lock estate a couple of years ago, decided it was time to combine getting more active with supporting their community.
They spotted an appeal on our #WMNow messaging service to join #Streetwatch and #CanalWatch and help make where they live an even better place to be.
So we've teamed up with the Canal River Trust to make their Street Watch patrols part of the Trust's Canal Watch scheme as well.
This week they were out patrolling around the estate and along the canal for the first time and were joined by some of our community support officers and Lutfur Rahman from the Canal River Trust.
The Hiddenpals said: "We both are fond of water and as we have the Birmingham Canal next to our estate, we always fancy taking a walk there during the summer.
"We got involved through WMnow when they called out for Street Watch volunteers.
"Of late we have realised that we are not active enough. So as one of the initiatives we decided to answer this call so we have some objective to be more active and do our bit for our neighbourhood.”
