Man dies following assault at Maypole in Birmingham
A man who was left in a critical condition following an attack in Birmingham died in hospital today (Sunday).
The 23-year-old was attacked on Alcester Road South, Maypole, at around 4.40pm on Thursday (19 September).
He died in hospital today, and his relatives are being supported by specially trained officers.
It is believed the victim was assaulted after a row broke out with occupants of a passing car.
One man has been charged in connection with the investigation.
It is believed two people were involved in the assault, and enquiries are ongoing.
Det Insp Stuart Mobberley, from Homicide department, said: “This is now a murder enquiry, and our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this tragic time.
“We have charged one person in connection with what happened and that charge will be reviewed in due course.
“This is still very much an active investigation, and I’d appeal to anyone who was involved in what happened to hand themselves in before we arrest them.
“If anyone saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police, we need to hear from them as soon as possible.”
