Man dead following New Year road crash in Walsall

A man died just minutes into the New Year following a road crash in Walsall this morning.

Emergency services were called to Pinfold Lane in Great Barr just after midnight where a silver BMW 3-Series had hit a tree.

The driver, a 37-year-old man from Walsall, was found in the car with serious injuries and sadly pronounced dead at the scene; his next of kin have been notified and are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.

Crash reconstruction experts from West Midlands Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit held the scene overnight for an examination in a bid to understand what caused the car to leave the road.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who was driving near the area last night and may have caught a silver 3-Series BMW on dash-cam, to get in touch.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police via Live Chat at WMP Online or call 101 and quote log reference 108 from 1 January. Or email the Serious Collision Investigation Unit:
