Man is charged as Smethwick murder victim is named
We have charged an 18-year-old man with murder after a fatal stabbing in Smethwick, as the teenage victim is named as Derlarno Samuels.
Derlarno, who was aged 17, was found with stab injuries in a car that crashed in Heath Street, Smethwick, at around 4.10pm on Saturday (1 May).
He was taken to hospital but sadly pronounced dead around an hour later.
It’s understood that minutes earlier he was allegedly chased into a shop in Waterloo Road, Smethwick, and attacked with a knife.
A post mortem has given the cause of Derlarno’s death as a stab wound.
Derlarno’s family paid tribute to the teenager and said: "Derlarno was ambitious, inquisitive and full of life.
"He was a generous young man who is much loved and missed by his family and friends."
Cam-Ron Dunn, who was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday 2 May), has this afternoon (Monday 3 May) been charged with murder.
Dunn, from Smethwick, remains in police custody and will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow (Tuesday).
Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse from our Homicide Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Derlarno’s family who are being supported by our specially trained officers at this tragic time.
"We are still working to establish the full circumstances and we would ask anyone with information about what happened to get in contact, in particular anyone who witnessed any disorder around the Waterloo Road/Cape Hill/Windmill Lane junction between 3pm and 4.30pm.’’
