Man awarded for tackling brazen thief

A member of the public has been awarded for tackling a shoplifter as he tried to run away from officers in Streetly.

Lee Getty, aged 47, spotted the crook running from officers before jumping into the back of a getaway car on Aldridge Road on 16 October last year.

Lee bravely drove his car towards the crook in a bid to block him in, then jumped out and tried to take the keys from the ignition of the getaway car.

The thief jumped out and ran off, but thanks to Lee’s valiant actions slowing him down, he was stopped by officers almost immediately. They managed to recover the stolen goods and discovered that the thief was also wanted on recall to prison.

Lee was awarded a Chief Constable's Good Citizens award for his ‘public-spirited’ actions at a ceremony on Tuesday 19 November.

We’d like to say well done to Lee for acting with bravery and fearlessness at a time many others would have walked on by without getting involved.
