Officers continue to keep an open mind about the motive of the attack, however at this stage it is not believed that this is linked to hate crime.

Superintendent Mat Shaer from Birmingham Police, said: “We continue to work closely with the local community and have increased our local police presence in the area to provide reassurance and be on hand to answer any questions or concerns that people may have. I want to thank the community for their continued support and understanding during what I know has been a difficult time.

“We will not tolerate people who carry weapons on our streets. It is really important that we tackle all violence together so if you see something or hear about someone who is planning to use violence against others, we need to know so we can try to do something about it.

“Our priority is to protect members of the community from people who carry weapons or commit crime. If you have any information call officers on 101.”
