Loaded pistol found at Moseley Bog by Birmingham Organised Crime Team
This loaded Luger pistol has been found hidden in woodland at Moseley Bog, in the latest find by Birmingham’s Organised Crime Team.
The gun and its magazine, containing six rounds, was found with a box containing more than 30 bullets after a search of the area by the team yesterday, prompted by information from the community.
The gun was made safe by firearms officers at the site off Yardley Wood Road and will now be forensically examined and checked for links to any shootings.
Insp Simon Graham, from the team, said: “We’ve got another deadly weapon off the streets and it’s all thanks to intelligence from the community.
“Since the team launched, we’ve been really proactive in gathering intelligence, making arrests and taking guns off the streets.
“But we can’t do it without the help of the public. If you’ve got any information about people with access to guns, we’d urge you to do the right thing and let us know so that we can take them off the streets and prevent people getting seriously injured and killed.”
In June, we told how we were doubling the strength of the Birmingham Organised Crime Unit.
Twenty officers have been drafted into the specialist taskforce in a move that will enhance its capability to better understand the make-up of gangs, disrupt their activity and strike swiftly to make arrests.
Shotguns, a revolver and even an AK-47 have been recovered by the team since then.
But members of the team will also work with probation, youth workers and communities to divert vulnerable young people away from exploitation by organised criminals, and offer improved life choices.
