Former PC Declan Jones sentenced to 26 weeks for assault
A former PC who assaulted two people while working in Birmingham was today jailed for 26 weeks.
Declan Jones had denied the charges but was convicted after a five-day trial.
A detailed investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct ended in 30-year-old PC Jones, who was suspended last year, facing the criminal charges.
He was dismissed without notice at an accelerated hearing on Tuesday where the Chief Constable found his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct. The public hearing was arranged as soon as he was found guilty in the criminal courts.
Today he was sentenced at Birmingham Magistrates court by District Judge Shamim Qureshi.
Deputy Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine said: “Jones’ use of force was totally inappropriate and it’s right that he has been dismissed from the force and convicted in the criminal courts.”
