Facebook Live in the air this Wednesday

Join us LIVE on Wednesday (28 April) from 7pm as we take to the skies on Facebook and Instagram with our Drones Team. As part of our preparations for Coventry City of Culture which starts on 15 May 2021, we’re going live once again.

As Coventry prepares for City of Culture events and we start getting back to normality, we’re looking to encourage drone owners to fly safely, legally and responsibly.

Kerry Blakeman, West Midlands Police lead for Operational Planning at Coventry City of Culture, said: “Coventry will be awash with colour and events during the title year. As a drone owner myself I enjoy flying my drone but with recent changes in the law it’s quite difficult to understand what is actually permitted.

“As a result we will be live on Facebook with our force drone lead Sergeant Keith Bennett, to talk about how the Drones Team are helping to keep us safe from the skies, tracking offenders and searching for missing people.

“Sergeant Bennett will also be answering your questions about drone ownership, the drone code, registration and how to fly safely and responsibly. We’re also planning a live stream from one of our drones to give you a bird’s eye view across the city.”

Make sure you like and follow West Midlands Police Facebook page where the live broadcasts will begin from around 7pm.

We will also be live streaming from our Instagram page @westmidlandspolice.

The broadcast also marks five years since our very first Facebook Live back in April 2016. Our videos have received hundreds of thousands of views and have given the public an insight into our work to help keep you safe.
