Coventry murder victim named as police make more arrests

A 37-year-old man who died after being stabbed in a garden in Coventry has been named as Robert Burgess.

Robert, who was from the Coventry area, was found with stab injuries to his chest after police were called to Armfield Street, Bell Green, at around 9.15pm on Thursday (3 October).

Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing previously arrested a 41-year-old man, who has since been released on bail.

This morning (6 October) officers arrested a further four people in connection with the inquiry.

Two boys, both aged 17, are being held on suspicion of murder.

Meanwhile a 19-year-old man and a woman aged 25 are being questioned on suspicion of assisting an offender.

In a tribute released today Robert’s family said: “For 37 years you brought joy and happiness into our lives before you were taken too soon.

“You were a loving grandson, son, partner, father, brother and uncle who Is going to be sadly missed and forever in our hearts.”

Detective Inspector Nick Barnes, from the force’s homicide unit, said: “These arrests are a significant step forward as we try to establish exactly what happened to Mr Burgess. His family have been kept updated with this latest development and continue to be supported by specially trained officers at this difficult time.

“I ask anyone who has any information which they believe would assist our investigation, and hasn’t already spoken to us, to get in touch.”
