Coventry man charged with the murder of his flatmate

Detectives investigating the murder of a Coventry man found dead inside a flat have tonight (Thursday 4 June) charged a man with causing his death.

We discovered the body of 57-year-old Anil Vegad at his home in Eden Street on Monday evening (1 June) and Matthew Chibnall, of the same address, was arrested after handing himself in to police on the same day.

The 54-year-old has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court tomorrow (Friday 5 June).

A post mortem examination found that Mr Vegad died as a result of a stab wound to his back. His family continue to be supported by specialist officers at this tragic time.

Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone with information which can assist our enquiries to come forward.

You can contact us via Live Chat on our website or call 101 quoting log number 4322 of 1 June.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111, tell them what you know, not who you are.
