Caring cops make young girl’s day with special visit

We fulfilled a promise made to a young girl after hearing of her passion to be a police officer – by making her a PC for the day.

Officers heard of Serenity Ruddock’s hopes to one day join the force while making some enquiries at her home in Lones Road, West Bromwich, a few weeks ago.

At the time PCs Philip Kingsley and Abigail Barton, from the Smethwick neighbourhood team, were in an unmarked police car but vowed to return in a ‘proper’ police car so the 11-year-old and her family could have some fun and photos.

And last Monday (6 Sept) they made good that promise by popping along in a response car plus some police dress-up clothes and equipment for them to try out.

PC Kingsley said: “I could see Serenity was really interested in policing – her granddad used to be an officer in Jamaica – so I said I’d return when I could in a marked police car so they could get behind the wheel and try out the sirens.

“What child doesn’t like pushing the button to activate a police cars blues and twos?

“Everyone enjoyed themselves and hopefully we may have inspired some budding police officers of the future.”

PC Kingsley and his colleague visited the family during his lunch break… and we’re told the children haven’t stopped talking about our visit since!
