Birmingham man jailed for sex offences
A sex offender who assaulted a women and a teenager in two separate incidents has been jailed for 15 months.
Solomon Smith touched a woman inappropriately as she was serving at the counter of a fast food restaurant in Birmingham city centre on 15 March earlier this year. The following day, he pushed a 15-year-old girl into a shop doorway on Erdington High Street and indecently assaulted her. He was arrested by police shortly afterwards.
Smith, aged 38, of Hunton Road, Erdington, had only been released from prison in January after serving a custodial sentence for previous offences of sexually assaulting women.
Detective Constable Tom Finney, from the force’s Public Protection Unit, said: “Smith’s shameful behaviour is a cause of huge distress to his victims. I hope it gives these women some reassurance to know that he is now behind bars. He is suspected of having committed other sexual offences, and we are appealing to anyone else who may have been one of his victims to come forward, so we can fully investigate."
Smith admitted sexual assault by touching and exposure at Birmingham Crown Court and sentenced on Thursday (25 July). He will also remain on the Sex Offenders Register.
