A 20-year-old man has been arrested today (Thursday 28 September) on suspicion of terrorism offences.

The man was arrested from an address in London on suspicion of possessing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He is being questioned by officers from West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.

The arrest was pre-planned and intelligence-led; there was no threat to the public’s safety.

An address in London is subject of an on-going search. Officers are also searching an address in Walsall.

The man was arrested under PACE legislation, meaning officers have a maximum of 36 hours before charging, releasing, bailing or applying to a court for a warrant of further detention.
