Appeal following fatal collision in Edgbaston

Police are appealing for information after a taxi driver lost his life in a collision in Edgbaston in the early hours of this morning (29 August).

Officers were called to City Road at around 1.50am when a taxi driver − who was standing next to his parked car - was struck by a car that failed to stop at the scene.

Sadly the 47-year-old man died after suffering fatal injuries.

Sergeant Alan Hands, from the force’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: "I would urge anyone who saw what happened on City Road or has any information to urgently call my team on 101.

"At the moment we are keeping an open mind around what might have happened but we really need anyone who witnessed the collision or the lead up to it to give us a call.

"The family of the man are being supported by specialist officers at this tragic time and our thoughts remain with them."

Anyone with information is urged to call the investigation team on 101 quoting log 193 29/8.
