Appeal following Birmingham fire

We are appealing for information after a fire broke out in a Birmingham tower block last night.

We were alerted to the fire by a resident in James House, Newtown Drive shortly before 6pm yesterday (24 November).

It's understood the fire started in a communal area on the 11th floor.

We are working with colleagues in West Midlands Fire, and although it remains unclear what caused the fire we believe that it stemmed from a child’s push chair and we cannot rule out that this may have been set deliberately.

One person was taken to hospital as a precaution and several people were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but fortunately no none was seriously injured.

We are now appealing for any information to help our investigation which may help us establish the cause of the fire.

If you saw or heard anything, or have any CCTV or dash cam footage, please contact us via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101. Please quote log number 3188 of 24/11.
