Appeal after teenager hit with hammer during robbery 

Police are investigating after a teenager was hit with a hammer during a violent robbery in a Birmingham park.

The 16-year-old is believed to have been approached by a group of up to five masked men in Perry Park, Church Road, Perry Barr, between 4.15-4:30pm yesterday (12 May).

He was struck by a hammer and baseball bat as cash and mobile phone were stolen from him. The teenager was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

An 18-year-old girl was also punched to the face as she tried to intervene.

Sergeant Dave Bebb, from force CID, said: "This was a nasty attack which has left a boy with very serious injuries.

"Officers are actively seeking to identify those involved and I would urge anyone who can assist with our enquiries to come forward."
