Appeal after man shot at on Handsworth road

We are appealing for information after a man sustained an gunshot injury to his leg as he walked down a Handsworth road on Wednesday (27 May).

A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital with injuries consistent with being caused by a firearm after he was shot at from the window of a property on Rookery Road just after 7am. He remains in hospital today (Friday 29 May) in a stable condition.

Sergeant Nicholas McCullogh from the force CID team, said: “I am asking anyone who heard or noticed anything suspicious in the area to contact us.

“We are in the early stages of this investigation and I am keen to hear from anyone who has any information that could support us in finding out who or what caused the man’s fractured leg.”

Enquiries continue and anyone with information is asked to contact officers via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, quoting crime reference 20BW/121627Z/20.

Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
