Appeal after man critically injured in Tipton

Detectives are appealing for information after a man was left with serious head injuries after being attacked as his van was stolen in Tipton.

The 40-year-old man was hit with a blunt object in Sedgley Road East on Sunday (5 January) and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

His stolen white transit van was found further along the same road after catching fire due to an electrical fault.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who passed the van in Sedgley Road East between 7am and 7.30am and saw the suspected attacker and car thief either with or fleeing from the vehicle. They have released CCTV in an attempt to prompt people's memories.

Enquiries have established the attack happened around 7am, although emergency services were not made aware of the assault until just after 11am.

DC Polly Venables, from force CID, said: "A man has been left seriously injured and we're treating this as an attempted murder investigation.

"The van was found further up the road and we urgently need to speak to anyone who saw the driver. We know there were a number of cars who drove by and they could be crucial witnesses."
