Teenager arrested in connection with Coventry car-jacking

A teenager has been arrested after thieves forced a man out of a car and drove off at speed in Coventry last night (18 October).

The robbers approached the man on Blackberry Lane after jumping in front of his car. Armed with a machete, they demanded him to get out of the car before driving off at around 9.45pm.

Police spotted the vehicle driving at speed on Stoney Stanton Road and it failed to stop.

Following a short pursuit, the Chevrolet crashed into a lamppost on Caradoc Close and the occupants fled from it.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested nearby and a machete was seized from the car.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of robbery, possession of an offensive weapon, theft of motor vehicle, assaulting a police officer, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

He remains in police custody this morning.
