Congratulations, Claire!

One of our Assistant Chief Constables has received the Queen's Police Medal (QPM) in honour of her dedication to helping others.

ACC Claire Bell received the prestigious award from Princess Anne during a ceremony at Windsor Castle earlier this week.

The mother-of-two was recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours List almost two years ago but the pandemic delayed the presentation.

However, the proud moment arrived on Tuesday and she enjoyed the special occasion with her husband Kenny - who is also a Chief Superintendent within our force.

Claire has been a police officer for 26 years and previously led our public protection unit (PPU) which safeguards some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

The 47-year-old also helped drive the force's approach to diversity and inclusion while also initiating the family matters group for staff. This helped tackle anxieties around pregnancy and raising a family while continuing to work.

Claire – who became one of our ACCs last year - said: "I feel incredibly proud and it's something I never expected would happen when I joined policing.

"I became an officer because I wanted to help others in their time of need and whatever role I've been in that's always remained the aim.

"I've been fortunate to work alongside so many fantastic people who share that desire and offered me support along the way. I've tried to keep offering whatever support they have needed to help them too."
